A Picnic in the Park
New York City offers a wide array of public parks you can take advantage of this summer. 80 degrees and sunny? You can always plan a picnic trip with your friends to one of many options, whether it’s Prospect Park or Central Park (check out Trip Advisor’s list of 10 Best Parks & Nature Attractions in New York City). All you have to do is book a trip with one of our wheelchair accessible taxis and we’ll arrive at your pick-up location as soon as we can!
With the MLB baseball season in full swing during the summer, why not take in some New York Yankees or New York Mets baseball?! With the options of the 27-time World Series Champion New York Yankees and beloved 2-time World Series Champion Mets, either way you can’t go wrong! Both Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, and the New York Mets’ Citi Field in Queens, have a ton of information for fans with disabilities on their websites. For all you Mets fans, Citi Field has a phone number (718-565-4360) and an email address (accessibility@nymets.com) for inquiries ahead-of-time. The Mets also offer a fan-assistance number for individuals that need help while on site (646-438-5000). The Yankee Stadium website contains similar information, including an email address (disabledservices@yankees.com) and phone number (718-579-4510) for ahead of time inquiries.
Get away from your usual surrounding to be inspired by amazing art exhibits from famous artists at one of the oldest museums in the United States. The building is fully wheelchair accessible and offers wheelchairs upon request. Across the five floors, you’ll find exhibits, a library, auditorium, café, restaurant, a gift shop and an outdoor sculpture garden. Visitors with disabilities should also know that free admission is offered to their companions.
For three decades, SummerStage has given the City a string of outstanding outdoor concert events. A number of high-profile benefit shows fund more than 100 free events, including live music performances by popular artists from around the world, readings by famous authors, kid-friendly shows, dance and theatrical productions. The festival has expanded from its original location of Rumsey Playfield in Central Park—to locations in all five boroughs!
Have any kids? This is an ideal place to entertain kids of all ages. New York Hall of Science offers over 450 interactive, hands-on exhibits that encourage visitors to explore science, technology, engineering, and math. All of NYSCI’s exhibits, the 3D theater, playground and mini-golf course are accessible via wheelchair, and chairs are available for guests who need them.
